Tour Variation: Large Favela Tour

Upon request, the tour can be extended with the visit of the once most dangerous favela Rios, the "Complexo do Alemão", which you will experience by cable-car. In July 2011 this cable-car went into operation. The gondolas are running between six stations within the favela.
In November 2010 police and military entered the favela which has since been occupied by units of the "Unidades de Polícia Pacifica Dora”, the peace police, to fight against the organized crime.
Upon request we can also arrange a tour through the “Complexo do Alemão”.
Alternatively, it is also possible to visit the sanctuary "Igreja da Penha", enthroned on a hill, from where you have a  fantastic view over the North Zone of Rio, for example of the "Complexo do Alemão".
The origins of the Catholic Church are going back to the year 1635, when a small chapel was built, which has been continually expanding over the following centuries. The staircase with its 382 steps up to the church is frequently climbed by pilgrims on their knees.

Favela-Tour and Tijuca Forest

Apart from visiting the Tijuca Forest, the largest city-jungle in the world, you will visit the favela Rocinha, with more than 70.000 inhabitants the largest favela in South America. From a rooftop terrace you can see two very different worlds existing side by side. The world of the rich with their skyscrapers at São Conrado beach and the world of the poor, living on the hills in a densely populated sea of houses. On the way down you will walk right through the bustling streets of the favela Rocinha.
