The city of Brazilian Emperors
The city of Petrópolis got its name in honor of two Brazilian Emperors. 1822 Pedro I was riding along the "Caminho de Ouro" towards Minas Gerais and remained for a short time on the farm of Padre Correia. He liked the area, the climate and the vegetation immediately. For this reason, he bought a farm in the neighborhood and gave it the name "Fazenda Imperial da Concórdia". Here later the palace of Concórdia was build. Pedro I could no longer realize this dream, but his son Pedro II built the Imperial Palace "Palacio Imperial de Petrópolis". He also encouraged the immigration of German emigrants.
In the imperial city of Petrópolis you will make a short stop at the chocolate factory "Patrone" and the former Casino "Quintantinha". Further you will visit the museum "Museo Imperial", the Crystal Palace and the Cathedral "São Pedro de Alcantara".
