For almost 200 years Rio de Janeiro was the capital of Brazil. In 1808 Dom João, Prince of Portugal, came to Rio and founded a kingdom in the tropics. Rio became the homestead of important milestones of Brazilian history, such as: "Dia do Fico", the independence, the abolition of the slavery, the overthrow of the monarchy and the establishment of a republic. With your travel guide you will take the public transport to the city center of Rio, where you will explore the historical city by foot and thereby get an overview of the eventful history of the city.
